Who me? Organized? My husband might tell you otherwise, but I do find it hard to keep track of what day it is. That’s because of COVID and working full-time at home instead of in an office. I’m sure you can relate.
My iPhone is my best assistant and I use the calendar feature with alerts. Otherwise I’ll lose track of time, appointments, and deadlines. Fortunately, no one person does everything but we each have our tasks. But we do have a little secret that helps our day run more smoothly. We always sleep in until 9 a.m. Yeah! Charles and I are night owls, so we go to bed at, like, midnight. Then he gets up first and prepares Peet’s coffee to sip in bed while we watch the news. With a start like that, our day is less stressful and we’re both working in our comfort zone.
I go to work on my writing after morning coffee and a four-mile power walk. I not young anymore, so want to save my knees. That’s why I power walk instead of jog. I go through four pairs of quality athletic shoes in a year! One of the highlights of this year’s country adventures in power walking was having an adult mountain lion jump out in front of me, only about 30 feet away. Not to worry, I always take Shiloh, our German Shepherd and she went properly nuts. Said mountain lion fled and we continued on.
We live in the Redwoods of far Northern California. The beauty of this placed is unmatched, although it’s a very foggy, rainy area in the winter. Being from Southern California, it was hard for me to adjust to a near rain-forest environment, but the forest animals here and the lifestyle of country living outweighs the weather. Don’t get me wrong–it’s not that cold here. After all, we’re still in California! We get some awesome late summer and fall weather. Humboldt County is a wonderful place to visit if you love the ocean, rivers, lakes and wildlife! visithumboldt.com
My husband and I are like New Yorkers. We eat very late for being rural dwellers, and we save watching entertainment television to the evening. What are a few of your favorite series? We LOVED Breaking Bad, Ozark, Mr. Robot, Bosch and Catastrophe. We’re currently watching The Queen’s Gambit–excellent! They have such complex characters that you feel like family by the time the series is over. I’m still missing Mr. White on Breaking Bad!

Prairie Creek National Park is located just a few miles north of Trinidad California. The park is magnificent for viewing all sorts of forest animals including the huge Roosevelt Elk herd. Oftentimes you will see these animals browsing or resting on the sides of the 101 freeway near Orick, California. visitredwoods.com
